A DJ's year.....

Wow, it's definitely the busy season. Bookings are coming in thick and fast, and unfortunately this also means I'm having to turn a lot of work down due to already being booked! It's a shame I can't clone myself to do the other parties, but until that option is available, things will remain as they are.
DJ'ing is a strange business, I can literally get 3 enquiries in a day for the same date (aka the norm!). If you look at a year, most DJ's only get jobs on a Friday or a Saturday, with the odd job on a Sunday (Christenings) and the odd mid-week wedding (few and far between!). So in all a DJ generally looks to fill his diary with jobs on a Friday and a Saturday. On average there are only 104 Friday's and Saturday's in a year, so a DJ looks to fill these days to be able to make a living!
As a client there is a limited number of dates you can have your birthday party, anniversary, etc. on.
If your Birthday is on the 5th September for example, you literally have 4 dates (2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th) if you count Friday's and Saturdays, to book your DJ on. Even without such a limited scope,. if you plan on booking a DJ in the summer, on a Saturday, then this gives you only 15 possible dates to get that DJ that you really want to play at your party.
A client recently told me that I was the last thing they had booked for their party, which had been planned for the best part of a year. This is fine if you're not particularly bothered about who / what turns up to DJ your party.... Luckily they got me :)
Me, well I would put the DJ / Venue joint first in your party planning list!
The moral of this story.... BOOK EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT!
